Akeelia Richards is an Associate in Lex Caribbean’s Commercial Litigation, Restructuring and Insolvency Department at the Barbados office.
Akeelia completed her Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus, Jamaica, in 2022, where she graduated as one of the valedictorians. In 2023, Akeelia joined the firm as an in-service trainee before obtaining her Legal Education Certificate from the Norman Manley Law School in 2024.
During her legal training, Akeelia distinguished herself as a member of the winning team of the Caribbean Court of Justice 13th Annual Law Moot Court Competition and a member of the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Team. Additionally, Akeelia received several scholarships and accolades for her academic performance, including The Roy S. Townsend (Special) Scholarship, The Hon. Mr. Justice Lloyd B. Ellis, C.D. Memorial Bursary, Best Performance in Criminal Practice and Procedure, The Howard Randolph Hamilton, C.D., Q.C., J.P. Memorial Prize, and The Delano Roosevelt Franklyn Memorial Prize. She also served as Vice President of the Mona Law Society for the 2021–2022 academic year.
In 2024, Akeelia transitioned to an associate upon being admitted to practise law in Barbados and Saint Lucia. Her current practice areas include civil litigation, commercial litigation, employment law, intellectual property and insolvency.
