José Miguel is a partner in Bird & Bird’s Intellectual Property department in the Madrid office. Having been an IP litigator for over 20 years, his practice is focused on advising clients on the protection and commercialisation of intangible assets, and the negotiation and drafting of licence and assignment agreements of trademarks, patents, utility models, designs, copyrights and trade secrets. He has vast experience of filing judicial actions with the courts regarding the infringement and validity of IP rights and unfair competition in all fields of technology. He has significant experience enforcing standard, essential patents/FRAND litigation in Spain. His clients include those in the Tech & Comms, Life Sciences, Software, and Foodtech and Beverage sectors, of which he has advised on patent and trade secrets litigation and implementation of intangible asset identification, protection, and management programmes. Prior to joining Bird & Bird in 2020, he was a partner at a Spanish IP firm. He is the President of LES (Licensing Executives Society) Spain and Portugal, and a member of EPLAW.
