Nordstrom's is just one of the corporates who went shopping for a new general counsel this week.

Nordstrom went shopping at Macy’s to get their new legal chief.  The department store chain has appointed Ann Munson Steines as general counsel after more than 21 years in-house at Macy's.

Mexico-styled restaurant El Pollo Loco has appointed former Taco Bell lawyer Jason Weintraub as their new chief legal officer will join the company. The California-based fast food chain say they wanted someone with industry experience in-house.

General counsel Mark Nance is to leave the troubled drugs firm Insys Therapeutics Inc. The Phoenix-based company has been facing criminal and False Claims Act allegations that it bribed doctors to prescribe one of its popular opioid drugs, Subsys. Mr Nance, chief legal officer and general counsel, plans to resign from the company July 31, reportedly giving up a $613,000 retention bonus.

Sweden's SCA has appointed Katarina Nilsson as general counsel. Ms Nilsson succeeds the forestry company's top lawyer and senior vice president Jan Svedjebrant, who is retiring after nearly two decades with the company. She is currently an executive at one of the largest aluminum companies in the world, as general counsel.

Sonia Galindo has joined Nasdaq-listed FLIR Systems as senior vice president, general counsel, secretary and chief ethics and compliance officer. She reports to president and CEO Jim Cannon. Ms Galindo is based at FLIR’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, and moved to FLIR from education technology software company Rosetta Stone where she had been general counsel and corporate secretary since 2015.

Todd DuChene, who previously held the position of senior vice president, general counsel, secretary and chief ethics and compliance officer at FLIR, left the company at the end of March to join Core Scientific as general counsel.

Wanji Walcott has been hired as chief legal officer and general counsel for Discover Financial Services. She is also a member of the direct banking and payment services firm’s executive committee. Ms Walcott now leads Discover’s corporate legal function, managing litigation and legislative and regulatory affairs. She succeeds former general counsel Kelly McNamara Corley, who retired earlier this year after working with the company for 36 years. Ms Walcott previously worked at PayPal, where she was senior vice president and general counsel, having led the company’s global legal team since 2017.

Ashley Furniture has hired ex-Office Depot in-house leader Steve Calkins as chief legal officer, based in Tampa, Florida. He will supervise Ashley’s legal department while leading the company’s various legal efforts and international operations, including business transactions, compliance and regulatory issues.
