Jeffrey Greene: 'Prepared by practitioners and experts specifically for practitioners and experts'

The Global Legal Post today launches the first Law Over Borders online comparative guide to intellectual property.

Edited by Jeffrey Greene, co-chair of Foley & Lardner’s fashion, apparel and beauty industry team, the guide features contributions from an array of leading firms in key jurisdictions across the world.

It sets out the legal framework and sources of law relating to patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights, trade dress, rights of publicity, trade secrets and moral rights.

Greene said: “Prepared by practitioners and experts specifically for practitioners and experts, this guide offers practical information regarding the creation, protection and enforcement of IP for navigating the ever-diminishing global marketplace.”

The online guide’s easy-to-use digital format allows readers to quickly assess how different jurisdictions tackle common issues by comparing contributing authors’ answers to a series of carefully framed questions.

The foreword is written by Asprey general counsel Sally Taylor who writes that the “landscape of intellectual property has never been more dynamic or critical”.

She adds: “As legal practitioners, creators and global business owners navigate various intellectual property laws (and rely on them to protect and enforce ideas, inventions and creative works), understanding the complexities of those laws, how they differ and where they harmonise, is not merely an academic exercise - it is a practical imperative.”

Contributing firms include: Allens (Australia), UNGRIA (Brazil), Fasken Martineau (Canada), Archer & Angel (India), TMI Associates (Japan), Eljure Legal (Mexico), Abril Abogados (Spain), PRINS Intellectual Property (Switzerland), Wisdom International Patent & Law Office (Taiwan), Stock Intellectual Property Services (Turkey), WP Thompson (UK) and Foley & Lardner (US).

The guide also features thematic chapters addressing Europe’s unitary patent and recent developments in trademark law contributed by Finnish firm Berggren and French practice Dreyfus respectively.

The Law Over Borders Intellectual Property guide is the 12th in the series, which also covers topics including Artificial Intelligence, Cryptoassets and ESG.

Forthcoming guides include Mediation, Insolvency, and Privacy. For further information about the Law Over Borders guides email associate publisher Claudia Tan ([email protected]).
