Insurance and reinsurance business Vantage Group Holdings has named Lucy Fato as general counsel, replacing chief legal officer Bobbi Anderson.
Fato joins from entertainment and hospitality business Seaport Entertainment Group, where she was GC and corporate secretary. She brings more than three decades of high-profile legal, compliance, regulatory and corporate governance leadership experience in the insurance and financial services industries to the role.
At Vantage Group, she will lead the legal team and serve on its leadership team, while acting as a strategic adviser to executive chairman Marc Grandisson.
Bermuda-headquartered Vantage Group is a speciality insurance and reinsurance business. It was acquired by Pershing Square-backed Howard Hughes Holdings in June from previous investors Carlyle and Hellman & Friedman in a deal worth $2.1bn. Howard Hughes is chaired by hedge fund billionaire and Pershing Square founder Bill Ackman.
Grandisson said: “Lucy is a proven leader with a track record of guiding our industry’s most respected companies through growth and transformation, and her judgement across complex legal and regulatory matters will be a tremendous asset to us. Her arrival strengthens our foundation as we position Vantage for long-term value creation.”
Fato had been at Seaport since 2024, when it was spun out of Howard Hughes and listed as a separate public company. She was previously GC at insurance giant AIG for six years. Prior to that, she was GC and head of Americas at corporate investigations business Nardello & Co and GC at financial data and analytics company S&P Global.
Her first in-house role was at Marsh McLennan as deputy GC and corporate secretary, having spent 14 years at Davis Polk & Wardwell, just over five of them as a partner in its capital markets practice.
Fato said: “I am thrilled to join Vantage at such a pivotal moment and to be able to continue working with the leadership teams at Howard Hughes Holdings and Pershing Square as we look to the exciting future of Vantage. The company has an innovative and distinctive approach and I look forward to partnering with Marc and the entire team at Vantage to support our next chapter of growth.”
Anderson, meanwhile, steps down after almost six years as CLO, having previously been GC at Elementum Advisors and a partner at Sidley Austin before that.
In other recent insurance moves, back in May, US insurer Hadron hired Liesel Carvajal as group GC from AXA XL, where she was GC for its US insurance business.
