US pizza delivery giant Papa Johns International has reappointed Caroline Miller Oyler as its top lawyer amid a leadership reshuffle.
Miller Oyler was previously chief legal and risk officer, before becoming chief administration officer last year. She will now reassume the CLO role alongside her chief administrative officer duties, as well as continuing her role as corporate secretary.
In her expanded role, she will lead the legal function and oversee human resources and culture, legal, risk, safety, internal audit and facilities matters.
General counsel John Matter has been moved to a newly created role of global chief development officer.
Louisville-based Papa Johns is the world’s third-largest pizza delivery company.
Todd Penegor, president and CEO of Papa Johns, said: “Papa Johns is focused on advancing our strategic transformation, and we believe these appointments will help us deliver on that objective.”
Penegor added that Miller Oyler and Matter were among executives who have “contributed to the progress we have made on several of our key priorities, including building momentum in our international business, optimising our restaurant portfolio, supporting our global franchisee base and enabling efficiency and closer collaboration across teams”.
“We are confident they bring the discipline, focus and operational insight required to position Papa Johns for improved performance in 2027 and beyond,” Penegor said.
Miller Oyler has been with Papa Johns for more than 27 years, becoming chief legal and risk officer in 2018 before being made chief administration officer in June last year. She originally joined as senior counsel in 1999 from law firm Wyatt Tarrant and Combs, where she practised for almost nine years.
Matter, meanwhile, has been with Papa Johns for just over six years – his second spell at the company – rejoining as vice president for legal before becoming GC last year.
He was previously senior counsel at Kentucky Derby-owner Churchill Downs following an earlier stint at Papa Johns as assistant GC.
He also worked in-house at PharMerica as director of legal affairs, having previously worked in private practice at Middleton Reutlinger and JS&H.
In other pizza-related moves, in March last year Domino’s Pizza promoted assistant GC Ryan Mulally to GC, replacing Kevin Morris in the role. And in May 2024, US pizza chain Marco’s Pizza promoted former Subway lawyer Kristin Corcoran to CLO, replacing Todd Watson.
