US skills management platform Skillsoft has appointed Matthew Cushing as chief legal officer, replacing interim Scott Semel in the role.
Cushing was most recently general counsel and chief compliance officer at software company Pegasystems. He will be responsible for overseeing the company’s legal department, bringing more than three decades of expertise in governance, commercial leadership and business transformation.
Boston-based Skillsoft is an AI-powered workforce skills platform, supporting businesses with leadership and technology skills training for their employees.

Cushing spent almost nine years at Pegasystems before departing late last year. He was previously GC at energy business EnerNOC and tech business Acme Packet, which was bought by Oracle in 2013.
He started his legal career in private practice at legacy firm Bingham McCutchen where he spent almost 17 years, working his way up to partner.

Semel, meanwhile, departs after almost nine months, having joined as interim in November last year.

In other recent tech-related moves, last month US quantum computing business Quantinuum hired Robin Schulman as CLO from Gitlab. Also in July, AI and data company DDN hired Michelle Rosen as its first CLO, joining from Metropolis Technologies, and US network provider Ericsson Federal Technologies Group hired Melissa Milstead as CLO, joining from the wider Ericsson group where she was head of compliance for the Americas.
US IT services business Kyndryl named Andrew Bonzai as GC last month as well from Interpublic Group, replacing interim legal head Mark Ridges, and Dutch chipmaker NXP Semiconductors promoted Michael Hoffman to GC, replacing Jennifer Wuamett who is set to leave the company at the end of the year.
