US luxury furnishing business RH has named Ryan Hassanein as chief legal and compliance officer.

Hassanein joins from US healthcare giant McKesson, where he was a senior vice president in its enterprise quality management unit. At RH, he will be responsible for the company’s legal and compliance functions, as well as product safety and vendor compliance.

California-based RH sells a range of luxury home furnishings for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, bathrooms and outdoor spaces.

Gary Friedman, RH chairman and CEO, said: “Ryan’s leadership experience extends well beyond the traditional scope of a legal role based on the range of his contributions at McKesson, one of the largest and most sophisticated companies in the world from a legal and compliance perspective.

“We believe Ryan is an outstanding addition to our executive leadership team as we continue to optimise our business as part of our growth and international expansion.”

Hassanein spent just over four years at McKesson during a second spell at the company following a short period where he practised independently at his own firm. He first spent six years at McKesson across a number of legal roles, including assistant general counsel.

Prior to that, he worked in private practice at Morrison Foerster where he was a litigation partner and co-chair of its False Claims Act practice group.

Writing on LinkedIn, he said: “Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to organisations that challenge convention, pursue excellence relentlessly and aren’t afraid to reimagine what’s possible. RH embodies that spirit.

“Under Gary Friedman’s leadership, RH has evolved beyond traditional retail into a brand that seeks to elevate and inspire through extraordinary design, architecture, hospitality and curated experiences. It’s a company with an ambitious vision and a culture that embraces innovation and continuous transformation.”

Previous CLO Edward Lee left the company last June after almost 13 years to join sportswear business Vuori as CLO. Prior to becoming RH’s legal chief, he spent almost five years as deputy GC at MGM Resorts International.

Back in March 2024, luxury bathroom and kitchen business Kohler hired Megan Belcher as CLO, also ending a long search for a new legal chief following the departure of GC Natalie Maciolek in 2023.
