A third of Zimbabwe lawyers under investigation by Law Soc
Nearly 400 lawyers out of a total of 1,240 licensed by the Law Society of Zimbabwe are being investigated by their professional body for alleged acts of fraud or corruption relating to the last year.
Lloyd Mhishi, president of the society, said that most of the people being investigated were being scrutinised in relation to the alleged theft of money from trust accounts. Last year some lawyers were taken to court and convicted. Some law firms were also forcibly closed. Mr Mhishi also said that many issues relate to the failure to pay salaries to employees. Professor Lovemore Madhuku said that the level of complaints shows that 'society has become alert'. Source: The Herald
