Ms Ariffin-Boromand is the latest Olswang partner to pass on the prospect of a combined firm with Nabarro and CMS Cameron McKenna, choosing instead to join a rival. Partners at the firm were originally given until 10 October to sign a lock-in agreement for the merger, with those who failed to sign now expected to depart for other opportunities before the tie-up goes like on 1 May.
South-east Asia specialist
Ms Ariffin-Boromand joined Olswang as a partner in 2013 from Canadian outfit Fasken Martineau, where she had made the partnership in 2011. Having begun her career with Malaysian firm Shook Lin & Bok in the 1990s, she now specialises in advising clients based in south-east Asia on investment-related matters in and outside of the United Kingdom. Her current book of business includes Malaysian government funds and government-linked entities, high-net-worth individuals and family offices. Her exact start date at Withers has not yet been confirmed, though it is expected that she will formally join the firm in December.
