First up, Goodwin Procter has announced the hires of private equity duo Mark Soundy and Sarah Priestly. The pair both quit former firm Shearman & Sterling within a week of each other earlier this year, with many at the time citing Goodwin as a likely new home for the duo. Mr Soundy and Ms Priestly both joined Shearman & Sterling from Weil Gotshal & Manges in 2013. Most recently, Mr Soundy was head of Shearman’s global had of private equity. Ms Priestly, on the other hand, was head of the firm’s tax practice in London.
Meanwhile, Mayer Brown has hired former Dentons partner Jay Doraisamy to its London pensions team. Ms Doraisamy has been a partner at Dentons for the last four years, leaving her role head of Eversheds’ London pension team in 2012 to join the global megafirm. Her practice focuses on a broad range of pensions advisory work including funding, benefit redesign projects, scheme closures and amendments, and defined benefit/contribution schemes.
Incentives partner Michael Carter has moved from Addleshaw Goddard to Osborne Clarke. Mr Carter is moving firms after eight years as a partner at Addleshaws. His practice focuses on employee remuneration and taxes, with particular expertise in the design of share and cash incentive plans. Prior to his stint at Addleshaws, Mr Carter was a partner and head of executive compensation at KPMG.
Kings College London professor Frederico Ortino will be coming on part-time at the London office of Clifford Chance to help boost the Magic Circle firm’s Brexit advisory capability. A reader in international economic law, Professor Ortino will work into Clifford Chance’s 60-lawyer international trade practice.
