Lehman Brothers Holdings has appointed Matthew Cantor as its new executive vice president of legal affairs and chief general counsel.
The company added that the role is a new one at Lehman and that Cantor will ‘head the legal department, coordinate the company's legal functions and oversee all litigation matters,’ reports the New York Business Journal.
Mr Cantor was already with Lehman as a director of Lehman Brothers Special Finance, but will step down from that board in order to take the new position. He was previously a partner at Weil Gotshal & Manges and also Kirkland & Ellis, before going on to be a founder at Normandy Hill Capital.

Elsewhere, London-based advisor Rebus Investment Solutions has hired its first general counsel amid a crackdown on tax relief schemes.
Former Clyde & Co lawyer Alice Poole will join the company, overseeing Rebus’ 400 clients taking action to regain money from complex investments which were allegedly mis-sold, reports The Lawyer newspaper.
Ms Poole may be expecting a busy time in her new position, as this area of law has grown significantly since the success of cases such as ‘Eclipse Film Partners 35’, in which the courts ruled that investors could not claim tax relief following a challenge by HMRC.

Meanwhile, Kansas-based aircraft manufacturer Spirit AeroSystems has announced that Jon Lammers has joined the company as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary.
The Sacramento Bee reports that Mr Lammers has over 20 years of legal experience, spending the last 15 with food processing giant Cargill as its Asia Pacific general counsel, based in Singapore.
