A leadership shake-up at US-based retail chain Petco Animal Supplies has seen the appointment of a new legal chief. Alan Tse will be joining the company as senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary later this month. He leaves behind his role as GC for racing, gambling and entertainment company Churchill Downs, which he has held for the last six years. Mr Tse has also previously occupied the GC role at LG Electronics Mobilecomm USA, video compression software company Ligos Corp and optical networking company Centerpoint Broadband Technologies. He will be based in the company’s San Diego office and will take over from incumbent GC Darragh Davis, who is retiring after 13 years with Petco.

Meanwhile, Israeli generic pharmaceutical giant Teva Pharmaceuticals has elevated former deputy David Stark to the role of chief legal officer. He is taking over from former CLO Richard Egosi, who is taking a leave of absence from the company for personal reasons. Mr Stark joined Teva in 2002 after working as an associate in the litigations departments of US-based law firms Haight, Gardner Poor & Havens, Chadbourne & Parke and Willkie Farr & Gallagher. He was named deputy CLO earlier this year after serving as acting CLO from 2014 to 2015.

SunEdison Energy India is saying goodbye to general counsel and director Vinay Bhatia, who is joining the financial services unit of infrastructure development and finance company IL&FS Financial Services as its own new GC. Mr Bhatia graduated from the National Law School of India University Bangalore in 2001 and started his in-house legal career at ICICI Bank. After a series of other in-house roles, he joined SunEdison in June 2010.  At IL&FS Financial Services Mr Bhatia will be replacing Damani Marwah, who left to take up the GC role at Axis Bank in September.

Zurich-headquartered Swiss private bank Vontobel has named former UBS legal manager Enrico Friz as its new general counsel, effective from 1 January. Mr Friz will head the bank’s Legal, Regulatory and Tax department in place of outgoing GC Martin Taufer, who is standing down at the end of this year to pursue other opportunities. Mr Friz began his in-house legal career at UBS, where he eventually served as Legal Counsel from 1993 to 1998. The role saw him assume responsibility for advising UBS’ Group Trading and Risk Management Division across offices in Zurich, London, New York, Frankfurt and Singapore. Most recently, Mr Friz has served as a partner at Swiss commercial law firm Walder Wyss.

Finally, Wisconsin-based Rogers Behavioral Health has appointed Marybeth Herbst-Flagstad as its first ever general counsel. She will oversee risk management as well as general legal advice for both Rogers Behavioral Health System and Rogers Memorial Hospital, which spans 10 locations across Wisconsin, Florida, Tennessee, Illinois and Minnesota. A graduate of Marquette University Law School, Ms Herbst-Flagstad served as senior counsel for Assurant Health in Milwaukee before her most recent role as an attorney for the Forest County Potawatomi Community.
