Global luxury lifestyle brand Michael Kors has promoted Krista McDonough to the position of senior vice president and general counsel, reporting to chairman and CEO John Idol. She succeeds Lee Sporn who, after 13 years as Michael Kors’ general counsel, is retiring to become a full-time law professor. Krista McDonough joined Michael Kors in 2011 and has been deputy general counsel since June 2015. Formerly she was at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She has a law degree from New York Law School. 'Since joining Michael Kors, Krista has been an integral part of the Legal Department. She brings much strength to this position,' says Mr Idol, 'counting valuable experience in corporate governance, securities law, employment matters and intellectual property enforcement.' He added he was 'very grateful for Lee’s many contributions to Michael Kors. He has been a strong and important partner to me and to the leadership team.'

Jack Balagia, vice president and general counsel of Exxon Mobil Corporation is to retire next month after more than 18 years of service; current assistant general counsel Randall Ebner is expected to take over. A native of Austin, Texas, Mr Balagia joined the Exxon Firm, USA Law Department in May 1998 in Houston as counsel in the litigation group. He became coordinator for Upstream litigation in 1999 and assistant general counsel in 2004. He was appointed to his current position in March 2010. 

Medical device company NuVasive, which focuses on transforming spine surgery with minimally disruptive, procedurally-integrated solutions, has appointed Joan Stafslien as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Ms Stafslien will oversee the Company's global legal function, reporting to NuVasive's chairman and chief executive officer, Gregory Lucier, and serving on the company's executive leadership team. Ms Stafslien brings more than 20 years' experience as a legal advisor to medical technology companies and joins NuVasive from CareFusion, where she served as general counsel and corporate secretary from 2009 until its acquisition by Becton Dickinson in 2015. 

E*TRADE Financial Corp. has named its former general counsel Karl Roessner as chief executive officer and board member to succeed former CEO Paul Idzik. Mr Roessner served as general counsel for more than seven years, overseeing all compliance and regulatory functions for the company and its bank and brokerage subsidiaries. During that time, he also served as the corporate secretary to the company's board of directors. Prior to joining E*TRADE, he was a partner in the corporate practice group of Clifford Chance US where he advised clients on negotiated public and private transactions, management and leveraged buyouts, capital raising activities, and corporate governance matters.

Film development and production company Amblin Partners has promoted Chris Floyd to chief operating officer and general counsel. Previously, he served as general counsel and head of business affairs, having joined the company (then DreamWorks Studios) in 2007. A member of the team that helped create Amblin Partners in December 2015, he will continue to oversee business and legal affairs, as well as all corporate legal matters, and will add oversight of international distribution and various other operations of the company. Prior to DreamWorks Studios, Floyd was senior vice president of business affairs at Universal Pictures, and prior to that was senior vice president of business affairs for Paramount Pictures and Paramount Classics.
