Aussie firms get greener in the downturn

Australian law firms cut their environmental emissions by 10% in 2013/14 - partly due to reductions in headcount and in business travel.

A report from the Australian Legal Sector Alliance has collected the results of 32 of its 40  members, finding that electricity usage was down 7%, business travel 4% and paper 2%. There was also a 280% increase in carbon offsets bought by the firms. 

Electricity

Electricity is the largest source of emissions, accounting for 60%. Business travel accounts for 38% and paper 2%. Altogether the firms had a personnel total which was 2% under its 2013 level. Source: Lawyers Weekly
