Community Law Australia described the problem as an ‘access to justice crisis’ for those living outside of the country’s main cities.
The Australian newspaper reports that lawyers claimed more than half a million people are missing out on legal assistance every year.
Community Law Australia spokeswoman Carolyn Bond said today: ‘We are asking for funding to the whole legal assistance sector to be doubled.
‘Unless we act to close the gaps in areas where access to legal help is poor, ordinary Australians will continue to miss out.’
