Baker & McKenzie has announced that prominent bankruptcy partners Debra Dandeneau and Peter Goodman have joined the firm in New York. Ms Dandeneau came on board last week as the firm’s new global restructuring and insolvency co-head after a 30-year career at rival Weil, Gotshal & Manges. She will also chair Baker & McKenzie’s North American restructuring and insolvency practice. New colleague Mr Goodman has joined the firm after more than six years as a principal at McKool Smith.
Growing demand
Many firms are experiencing heavier demand for bankruptcy services, in significant part due to tough times currently engulfing the global energy marketplace. In the United States, Chapter 11 business filings have grown around 25 per cent year-on-year, from 2,575 last year to 3,220 in 2016. With a total headcount of around 4,300 lawyers, Baker & McKenzie currently has around 150 lawyers dedicated to restructuring and insolvency matters.
