He said: ‘We hit a rough spot,’ but he adds that expenses are down, and that: ‘We expect improved profitability for our partners who are remaining with us.’ He told the newspaper that the firm is exploring various options, including the remote possibility of bankruptcy. He said: ‘I’m not going to pretend things aren’t out there and the world isn’t a real world. It’s certainly not any strategic alternative that I’m interested in pursuing.’

The firm is in advanced merger discussions with Morgan Lewis. Partner votes on both sides are expected in the next few weeks. A merger would make the combined firm one of the top five law firms in the world, with revenues of some US$2b. Bingham is regarded as a great, long-standing law firm, and has handled issues including the Pentagon Papers and the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Source: Boston Globe
