Belfast law firm McIvor Farrell are acting for campaigner Raymond McCord, who is believed to be the first person in Northern Ireland to issue proceedings over Brexit. Mr McCord claims it would be unlawful to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty without Parliament voting on the move and that Brexit would undermine the UK’s domestic and international treaty obligations under the Good Friday Agreement, inflicting damage on the peace process.
‘Peace money’
Mr McCord’s son was murdered by loyalist paramilitary group UVF in 1997 and he is concerned that EU ‘peace money’ paid to victims of the Troubles could end with Brexit.
