Brighter future predicted for firms with narrower specialisms

Law firms have entered a new 'age of hyper specialisation' in which in-house lawyers call on a wide band of firms which are each hyper specialists in narrow areas of expertise, according to consultants.

Tim Williams, founder of Ignition Consulting, said: 'We are entering what some observers call ‘the age of hyper specialisation,’ where sophisticated clients know what they want and know where to find it.' Instead of wanting to go to full services firms, they call on a pool of talent in very specific areas. So they will have a different adviser on tax to the people they use for litigation.

Trial lawyers and employment specialists
