Cadwalader appoints ex-JP Morgan star as chair

While other firms are promoting litigators to leadership posts, Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft is appointing James Woolery, formerly co-head of M&A at JP Morgan, to be its new chair.

He takes over from Christopher White at the end of 2014. The appointment suggests that there is an expectation that M&A activity is set to take off again in the US. Before his time at JP Morgan, Mr Woolery was at another leading M&A practice, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, for 17 years. He was at JP Morgan from 2011 until last spring before joining Cadwalader as deputy chair. He said: 'We anticipate a substantial increase in the M&A, capital markets and transactional markets where we have significant practices.' Source: Financial Times
