Mr Gerstenzang will be seizing the reins from former managing partner Mark Leddy, who has held the position since 2011. Mr Leddy is also based in the US and will stay on at the firm as head of the its antitrust practice after he steps down from the helm at the beginning of next year. ‘Michael is a truly accomplished lawyer who deeply values Cleary Gottlieb’s founding principles of collegiality, legal excellence and democratic governance,’ said Mr Leddy of his successor, adding that Mr Gerstenzang embodies the spirit of internationalism ‘at the core’ for the firm.
Longtime Cleary man
New York-based Mr Gerstenzang has called Cleary Gottlieb home for an impressive 24 years, having first joined the firm in 1992 and making partner in 1999. A statement from Cleary Gottlieb has confirmed that Mr Gerstenzang will continue his own private investment funds practice while serving his three-year term as managing partner.
