UK employment and regulatory law specialist CM Murray has hired employment lawyer Emma Sangeelee from Edwin Coe to bolster its employment disputes practice.
Sangeelee joins as a partner and will be based in London, bringing with her 15 years’ experience in partnership and employment litigation in the private equity and professional services sectors. She specialises in matters related to partner discrimination and whistleblowing claims, remuneration structures and the enforceability of post-termination restraints. She also advises clients on negotiating partnership deeds and transitions into new roles.
Clare Murray, managing partner of CM Murray, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Emma to the partnership. Her deep expertise in contentious partnership and employment matters, particularly in the private equity space, aligns perfectly with our strategic focus and client needs. Emma’s arrival further reinforces our position as the go-to firm for senior executives and partnerships navigating complex disputes and transitions.”
The firm said Sangeelee’s appointment is part of the firm’s broader strategic plan to broaden its partnership disputes capabilities and extend its coverage to private equity clients.
Sangeelee arrives after more than 18 years at Edwin Coe, having made partner in 2018. She originally joined in 2006 as a trainee solicitor, qualifying in 2008.
She said: “I am excited to be joining CM Murray, a firm I have long admired for its exceptional reputation and collaborative culture. I look forward to working with Clare and the team to support clients through their most challenging partnership and employment issues.”
Sangeelee’s arrival follows several other recent hires, including Nick Leale who joined in February from Armstrong Teasdale as part of the launch of the firm’s regulatory unit. CM Murray is ranked Tier 1 by Legal 500 and Band 1 by Chambers & Partners for its work in partnership and employment law.
Last November, A&O Shearman bolstered its employment coverage in London with the hire of incentives partner Mahesh Varia from Travers Smith, where he led the firm’s incentives and remuneration practice group.
And in October last year, Paul Hastings added a four partner employment litigation group from Baker McKenzie in New York, including Paul Evans, Krissy Katzenstein, Blair Robinson and Jeffrey Sturgeon.
