US telecoms business Comtech has lined up Amy Rothstein-Hovey as its next chief legal officer, succeeding Don Walther in the role.

Rothstein-Hovey joins initially as general counsel and will take over from Walther once the company completes the sale of its satellite and space communications (S&S) business to Gilat Satellite Networks. Rothstein-Hovey most recently served as group CLO at adtech platform Nexxen. As CLO at Comtech, she will work closely with its public safety and emergency telecoms unit Allerium. She will be based in Allerium’s Seattle office.

Chandler, Arizona-headquartered Comtech is a US communications business. It rebranded its terrestrial and networks business segment to Allerium in November last year, while it sold most of its satellite business to Gilat in June.

Ken Traub, chairman, president and CEO of Comtech, said Rothstein-Hovey brings “deep experience in governance, strategic transactions and capital markets”, adding that she will be a key leader for the company as it completes the sale of its S&S unit.

Rothstein-Hovey spent more than 12 years at Nexxen and its predecessor companies Tremor International, RhythmOne and YuMe. Prior to that she spent more than three and a half years at Hewlett-Packard as a director for corporate, securities and M&A, her first in-house role.

She started her career in private practice at Baird Holm, before moving to Cooley and later Weil Gotshal and Manges.

Walther, meanwhile, is set to depart after just over three years with the company, having joined in 2023 from Robotic Research, where he was also CLO. The company said his departure is amicable, with Walther remaining on to see through the S&S sale, which is expected to complete in Q4, and support the CLO transition.

Traub thanked Walther for his “dedication and partnership as Comtech successfully navigated its transformation over the past two years”, adding that his leadership and contributions have been critical to strengthening the business over that time.

In other recent communications-related moves, last month US cloud comms business Bandwidth promoted Emily Harlan to GC, replacing Brandon Asbill in the role. And in June, Boost Mobile-owner Echostar Corporation named Jeffrey Blum as acting CLO, replacing Dean Manson.
