Gregory Berry brought a $77 million law suit against Kasowitz Benson Torres & Friedman when he was sacked after being with the law firm for less than a year.
According to a report in the New York Law Journal, the associate claimed he was dismissed for challenging the law firm’s leadership over its stated policy of affording junior lawyers significant levels of responsibility.

The report says Mr Berry – who had spent 15 years in the technology sector before passing the bar exams -- sent the partners an e-mail claiming that he had ‘a superior legal mind to most I have met’.
The partner maintained Mr Berry’s claim should be dismissed because he had signed a full and final severance package agreement worth $27,000, and the appeal judges agreed. However, Mr Barry told the Journal that he would ‘file a motion to reargue the matter, as he claims that Kasowtiz had not honoured the severance deal.
