Criminal lawyers suffer pay cuts

Criminal lawyers are being asked to take a four per cent pay cut from their bosses just to keep their jobs.

Criminal lawyers in a large London practice are being asked to take a pay cut or face losing their jobs, the Guardian reports. And it is predicted that two in three criminal solicitors could be out of work as a result of government cuts to legal aid. London law firm T V Edwards has sent a memo to lawyers saying that those who feel they cannot agree to the reduction in salary can be terminated. The employment of paralegals to do routine criminal jobs such as representing clients in police stations has also had an impact. Source: The Guardian
