DAC Beachcroft hires team of 30 for US debut

Group including four partners to open offices in New York and Los Angeles at start of next year

DAC Beachcroft has hired a team of 30 professionals including four partners to launch in the United States, continuing the UK-based firm’s rapid international expansion.

The firm, known for its work in the insurance sector, is set to bring insurance-focused teams from two different US law firms to open offices in New York and Los Angeles on 1 January 2025.

Partners George Vogrin and Mike Frimet have joined from eight-lawyer insurance boutique Vogrin & Frimet with their six colleagues, while partners Lawrence Klein and Gilbert Lee have joined from 400-lawyer national firm Robinson+Cole with a further 20 lawyers and staff.

All four partners are based primarily in New York but will spend time in California, a DAC Beachcroft spokesperson said. In the short term, most of the team will also be based in New York, with the firm intending to expand its LA office in the short to medium term.

Vogrin and Frimet specialise in insurance coverage and reinsurance matters, with particular experience acting for global insurers in the London insurance market, while Klein and Lee are insurance coverage specialists who advise global and US insurers in disputes before state and federal courts and arbitration panels in the US, UK and Bermuda.

DAC Beachcroft’s managing partner, David Pollitt, said continuing to expand internationally was a key element of the firm’s strategy.

“Being able to establish operations in the thriving US legal market not only satisfies a key client demand within our insurance practice, but also gives potential for our clients across other areas of our business to benefit from our presence in the US market,” he added.

DAC Beachcroft has offices across Europe, Asia and Latin America alongside its 11 UK locations. Its US launch follows the firm expanding its network earlier this year with launches in Peru in May and Hong Kong in September, having set up shop in Milan, Rome and Buenos Aires last year.

The firm has a representative office in Miami that it opened in 2015 to act as a liaison between its Latin American and wider global office network, and for the past seven years has also been a member of the Legalign Global alliance with three insurance-focused law firms – Germany’s BLD Bach Langheid Dallmayr, Australian firm Wotton Kearney and US firm Wilson Elser.

This year the firm posted its 10th consecutive year of revenue growth, with revenue growing 9% to £326.5m – placing it 18th among UK headquartered firms. Meantime profit before tax grew 15% £71m and partner profits rose 7% to £700,000.
