The pair led advice to Mid Europe Partners on its planned acquisition of Profi Rom Food, the largest supermarket chain in Romania. A team from Allen & Overy’s Romania outpost led advice for seller, Polish Enterprise Fund VI. The €533m acquisition is set to be the largest private equity deal in Romania’s history and is also a first-time instruction for Dechert, adding buyout investor and key White & Case client Mid Europa to the firm’s client roster for the first time.

Joining forces

Both Mr Markland and Mr Allardice have advised Mid Europe in the past before joining Dechert from Kirkland & Ellis and White & Case respectively. Mr Markland explained: ‘This was one of the big purposes behind the move. Allardice always did Mid Europe Partners’ M&A and I did their debt.’ Mr Allardice advised the buyout firm on its sale of solar energy plant operator E 21, while Mr Markland advised on its acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in vitamin company Walmark in 2012.
