Demand for cybersecurity lawyers booms in LA

Lawyers who specialise in privacy and cyber security are benefiting from a boom in California - with salaries to match.

Los Angeles: cyber boom Kzenon

Reports in Forbes and the Los Angeles Daily Journal conclude that demand has 'exploded'. 'General counsel say there is a shortage of qualified practitioners who can do the job', comments Forbes. LinkedIn's general counsel Erika Rottenberg is featured as saying that law firms might be finding a shortage of this kind of lawyer as tech companies in Silicon Valley snap up most of the qualified specialists.

Law schools may well take note and start to train more students in these areas - particularly as 'law graduates are clamouring to find jobs' at the moment, according to Forbes. A cyber security specialism appears to be offering a premium of some US$10,000 to people who have certificates - from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, for instance.
