The firm’s planned tie-up with Costa Rica-headquartered Muñoz Global would make Dentons the second international law firm with offices in Central America after Littler Mendelson, which currently has offices in Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica. Muñoz Global is a newly established firm that has emerged out of the amicable division of Arias & Muñoz, the first Pan-Central American law firm. The split of Arias & Muñoz was announced just yesterday, alongside news of the planned tie-up with Dentons.
Latin American expansion
The merger, if approved by partners, will give Dentons offices in Costa Rica, Panama and Nicaragua. It follows closely in the footsteps of the launches of Dentons López Velarde in Mexico and Dentons Cardenas & Cardenas in Colombia earlier this year. Dentons global chairman John Andrew said that the new offices will deepen the firm’s regional offering to clients with growing interests in Latin America: ‘Our goal is to connect those clients with top-tier talent by combining with firms whose lawyers are highly regarded and deeply rooted in the local economy and legal culture. The lawyers of Muñoz Global offer all that and more.’
