The UK government has come under fire for spending nearly £4 million on consultants and law firms over the location of a controversial new runway in the south east of England. The controversy over an extension to Heathrow Airport saw law firm DLA Piper UK paid £1.09 million whilst Allen & Overy received £152,955. Financial advisers NM Rotschild & Sons received £1.46 million whilst accountancy firm EY were paid £138,765.
Public consultation
The Government approved a third runway at Heathrow Airport Government in October following the rejection of proposals to expand its existing runway or build a second runway at Gatwick. A public consultation will be held on the runway which, if approved, could be in operation by 2025.
