In the wake of the first two guilty pleas from leading banks - Credit Suisse and BNP Paribas - in over ten years, Leslie Caldwell is not suggesting that the pace of the investigators will slacken. She said: ‘The government has gotten more sophisticated and more willing to investigate complicated fraud. We’ve learned a lot from cases that we’ve done. We have more knowledge in how to do these cases in a more timely way. We’ve seen evidence of criminal activity at a lot of financial institutions. We don’t decide which types of things we investigate. We follow the evidence where it leads.’ Ms Caldwell is returning to the Department of Justice after a decade away. She had been defending finanical and other companies at law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. Source: Financial Times
