Dutch companies go unpunished over data breaches

Some Dutch Internet providers and other telecoms companies have broken laws enshrined in the European Data Retention Directive but have gone unpunished.

Dutch Internet and telecoms companies remain unpunished for data breaches SergiyN

The Bits of Freedom organised gained access to a report prepared by the Radiocommunications Agency under a freedom of information request. The report, completed in April 2012, said that the companies had breached the directive by using data for marketing purposes which was only meant to be retained for crime detection purposes. Despite the conclusions of the report, the companies involved have not been punished, according to Computer World UK.  Bits of Freedom is calling on the EU to take action to prevent the exploitation of the data.
