Eurasian Natural Resources Corp (ENRC) has bumped former adviser Debevoise & Plimpton from an ongoing SFO criminal investigation into alleged fraud, bribery and corruption in its acquisition of sizeable mineral assets. The mining giant first instructed a Debevoise team led by Lord Goldsmith to advise on the ongoing SFO probe in June 2013, but has now decided to shift the mandate to rival firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan for ‘strategic reasons’. A statement from the firm emphasised that the decision to wrap up the working relationship between ENRC and the firm was both amicable and mutual: ‘Lord Goldsmith and his team have provided consistently excellent advice and representation… For a number of strategic reasons, ENRC and Debevoise have decided that the time is right to conclude this working relationship.’ Quinn Emanuel has not yet confirmed which of its partners will be leading on the new ENRC mandate.
