Eversheds targets Big Four consultancy work

Eversheds UK has recruited a group of financial services consultants to work side by side with lawyers in a regulatory compliance team - following in the steps of fellow UK-based firm RPC which also went into non-legal consulting this month.

The growth of financial services risk has spurred law firms on to compete with the Big Four Gajus

Three members of the new team joined Eversheds in January from consultancy Resources Global Professionals. Paul Worth, head of the practice's Financial Institutions Group, said: 'The true differentiator here is that we will have lawyers and consultants under the same roof.' He added: 'The growth of the Financial Services Regulatory Consulting practice has already seen the firm winning work which otherwise would have gone to the ‘big four’ accountants or risk consultants. This is a natural evolution of our financial services regulatory practice and provides us with the unique ability in the market to be a ‘one stop shop’ for regulatory advice and assistance to our clients. Where appropriate it will also enable the client to rely on legal professional privilege, which is something which the accountants and risk consultants cannot provide.'

 IT consultancy

Meanwhile Bird & Bird has set up an IT consultancy Baseline to work on complex issues in IT projects. They are working with ASE Consulting, a specialist firm in the IT change management sector. Sources: Eversheds and The Lawyer
