Family law pilot to start in Connecticut

A trial scheme will start on 6 January allowing parties to family law cases to hire lawyers for limited parts of proceedings.

The scheme is targeted at those who struggle to afford lawyers  for these cases. The new procedure will enable lawyers to represent clients in certain parts of the cases only. After those parts are completed, the lawyers will withdraw fully. Officials in the state say that the numbers of people who struggle with paying legal costs is rising and that more people are representing themselves. Similar problems are occurring in the UK.
