Fieldfisher is set to relocate around 90 roles to Belfast, in a move the firm said would bring its core business services functions together in one place.
The firm said moving the roles, which are currently based across its other UK offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham, would enable it to “enhance efficiency, strengthen service delivery and develop a centre of excellence” to support long-term growth.
The decision follows a consultation process that concluded last year; RollonFriday reported in November that staff unable or unwilling to move would find themselves out of a job.
Fieldfisher first opened in Belfast in 2018, when it launched a low-cost hub with a 10-strong team of mostly paralegals to provide document negotiation and legal support.
That followed other major firms shifting operational work to Belfast – A&O Shearman and HSF Kramer launched offices in the city in 2011 that have since grown into hubs of 700 and 200 staff respectively, providing legal delivery and support services.
Fieldfisher’s Belfast operation has grown into a key hub of more than 250 staff working across areas including finance, IT, HR and marketing alongside legal support work. The firm is also recruiting for around 30 open roles in the city, spanning multiple specialisms and levels of seniority, according to its website.
Late last year, the firm also boosted its strength in the Republic of Ireland through a merger with Dublin corporate boutique Regan Wall, in a tie-up that took its headcount to 140, including 18 partners, with 124 people based in Dublin and 16 in Cork.
