The Florida Bar Vision 2016 initiative was presented by Eugene Pettis at a meeting of the Jacksonville Bar Association and is a review of four critical areas impacting the legal profession in Florida. Mr. Pettis called for a reform of legal education after only 55 per cent of the 2011 graduating law class was hired full-time for law-related employment nine months following graduation. He wants Florida to join the thirteen other states that administer a uniform bar exam, to enable inter-jurisdictional mobility between states. Another key area is technology. Law firm are under-utilizing technology and, as a result, their time, he says. Finally, he wants to increase financial accessibility to lawyers through legal aid and pro bono channels.
