Ukrainian government appointed a foreign law firm to chase former prime ministers assets Iurii Konoval

The hiring of Lawrence Graham to chase the assets of two former Ukrainian prime ministers has been described as putting 'a lipstick on the pig' and 'outrageous'. The law firm was appointed by the present administration to chase assets outside the country of former prime ministers Pavlo Lazarenko and Yulia Tymoshenko. But, writing in the Kyiv Post, Halyna Senyk, a board member of NGO, the Anti-Corruption Centre in Kyiv, criticises numerous administrative, legal and political factors behind the making of this decision. And Ms Senyk also criticises severely the appointment of Skadden Arps at one stage by the Ukrainian government in the case, in a move which she says 'did not change anything'. She concludes: 'As it stands now, the government of Ukraine is wasting our money on foreign law firms and supporting the luxurious lifestyles of American and British solicitors, while making its own people poorer every day.' For more information, see the Kyiv Post.
