Former commissioner waltzes into Baker McKenzie

Former head of public takeover commission in Austria steps into Baker McKenzie role.

Wolfgang Eigner, the former Head of Office at Austria's Takeover Commission, has joined the Vienna office of Baker McKenzie as Counsel.

Sticking to his guns

Mr Eigner became head of office at the Takeover Commission in 2012, where, for more than two years, he supervised all public takeovers in Austria. In 2014 he returned to private practice with the Pelzmann Gall law firm,  the Austrian office of EY Law, where he advised clients in the areas of real estate law, public M&A, and private equity. According to Baker McKenzie, "Wolfgang Eigner also sticks to his guns at Baker McKenzie, where he works as a counsel in Gerhard Hermann's Corporate/M&A practice. He will establish a real estate law team focusing on transactional business. Furthermore, he will also advise on M&A and private equity transactions."

Reinforces position

Mr Hermann said, “Wolfgang Eigner will be a highly competent contact person for our clients in real estate law. Moreover, we continue to reinforce our position as the leading law firm in takeover law.” Mr Eigner studied law at the University of Vienna before working for five years as an assistant to Peter Doralt at the Institute for Business Law of the Vienna University of Economics and Business, then went to Cambridge to obtain his LLM. He started his legal career as a trainee lawyer with the Karasek Wietrzyk law firm, then stayed for a few years after passing the bar exam.
