Four law firms may face hacking investigation

Four UK law firms could be investigated by the Information Commissioner for alleged activity relating to the use of rogue private detectives.

They are on a list of 19 organisations, including five retailers and three insurers, produced by Information Commissioner Christopher Graham and mentioned in a letter to Keith Vaz MP, chair of the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee. The Committee has been pressing for the publication of names of organisations which used these private detectives. Until now, there has been no distinction made between organisations which might have used the detectives with total probity and others.

More information

In total, there were 22 law firms which were known to have used the investigators. The letter would suggest that 18 of them will face no further investigation - although it could be that their names will be released. More information may be forthcoming on Tuesday, 8 October when Mr Graham appears before the Committee, according to the BBC.
