The Magic Circle firm has just announced that London-based Mr Braham has been elected as the firm's senior partner in waiting, due to take over in January. London-based Christopher Pugh, formerly head of disputes, and Cologne-based Stephan Eilers, a tax structuring specialist, will become the joint managing partners. The three ran on the same ticket - along with a fourth partner, New York-based Michael Lacovara who is now co-head of the General Industries Sector Group and who becomes executive partner.
International angle
Mr Braham's brief welcoming comments emphasis two issues - the need for high value advice, especially internationally and a readiness to be adaptable to client needs. He said: 'Our clients are increasingly turning to the firm for high value advice wherever they need it, especially when the international angle matters. We look forward to continuing to develop the firm in a way that best serves our clients.'
Cross-border
The top law firms are increasingly turning to cross-border work to bring in top level fees. Allen & Overy, for instance, has found that matters involving a few jurisdictions tend to command significantly higher fees than domestic assignments. Freshfields has 27 offices worldwide.
