Taylor Wessing is believed to be the first UK law firm to bring a game-based testing app into its law trainee selection process.
Experiment
The firm has been using Cosmic Cadet, created by Arctic Shores, to assess law students seeking UK training positions. However, the firm has been quick to stress that the Cosmic Cadet experiment is still in its early days and the firm is taking a cautious approach.
Current hiring process utilises app
Following an internal pilot and feedback from trainees and associates, the firm decided to use it in its current trainee hiring process which runs until April of this year. While the data collected will not be used to make hiring decisions - at this stage - it is being used to help the firm learn as much as possible about how candidates deal with different scenarios.
Mobile app assesses character
Trainees who make it to stage two of the hiring process will be given two weeks to complete the game, which has no legal questions. The app, specifically geared for mobile devices, brings interviewees on board a starship and tasks them with getting the maximum number of stars across four challenges. What they may not know is that the game will also assess several traits such as social confidence, risk appetite, persistence, innovation potential and processing capacity.
