General counsel have been giving their observations on the law firm of the future. In the run-up to the GC Futures Summit, lawyers from leading companies globally have given their views on how law firm practice needs to shape up. One leading leisure company lawyer said he envisaged law firms becoming more specialist in specific sectors 'with a deep knowledge of the business, activity and culture of their customer. Another conglomerate GC said he forecast 'significant growth of 'back office' service provision from low cost locations, squeezed on margins save for the top end. Definately not billing by the hour.' Meanwhile a financial institution GC mused: 'Which future? No, just kidding: smaller with a focus on high end complex matters.' The GC Futures Summit will be held on 1 November 2016 in London.
