The latest earnings survey, Private Practice Solicitors Salaries 2015, collated salary information from 491 private practitioners across the United Kingdom and found that, on average, men in the profession are still raking in approximately 19.2 per cent more per year than women. While the average salary for male solicitors was £60,000 last year, women’s average annual salary sat considerably lower at £48,500.
London associates almost even
The survey found that the gap between male and female solicitors’ pay seems to widen the further up the ranks a lawyer climbs. While the gap between men and women at the equity partnership level was a cool 20 per cent (£100,000 per year versus £80,000), the gap was considerably smaller for lawyers at the assistant or associate level. Country wide, the gap for solicitors at these lower levels was around 10 per cent, shrinking further still to 4.3 per cent when considering only lawyers based in London.
