US firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has reshuffled its London leadership team.

Real estate and finance partner Robert Carr and disputes partner Osma Hudda were named co-partners in charge of the firm’s London office, replacing Ali Nikpay and Penny Madden KC who had been in the role since the start of 2021.

Carr joined Gibson Dunn in August 2021, having spent the previous 15 years at Herbert Smith Freehills, five of them as a partner. His practice focuses on advising lenders and borrowers on real estate-backed financing transactions in the UK and Europe.

Hudda is currently co-chair of the firm’s London disputes group. She has experience across a wide range of dispute resolution areas, including litigation and international arbitration.

The duo took up their new roles at the start of this year.

Nikpay will now turn his attention back to co-chairing the firm’s global competition group, while Madden will continue her work as co-chair of its international arbitration practice group.

Gibson Dunn confirmed the moves but declined to comment further.

Gibson Dunn’s London office has 179 lawyers, according to its website.

Other firms that have changed their leadership in London recently include Clifford Chance, which in December appointed Chinwe Odimba-Chapman as London managing partner – the first black woman to lead the Magic Circle firm’s London office.

Back in September Latham & Watkins named corporate partner Ed Barnett as its new London managing partner, replacing Stephen Kensell who had been managing partner of the office since March 2020.

In June, Hausfeld named competition litigator Nicola Boyle as its new London managing partner, replacing Lianne Craig who announced she was stepping down early for personal reasons.

And in May, McDermott Will & Emery named Aymen Mahmoud as its London managing partner, replacing Hamid Yunis who had led the office since 2019 and managed the firm’s London response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
