Nima Lorjé has joined Hausfeld’s Amsterdam office as a partner from prominent Benelux independent firm Stibbe, where he was a counsel.

Lorjé brings defendant insights into competition damages litigation and public competition law, particularly before the Dutch civil courts and the EU Court of Justice, having acted for major corporate clients in complex, high-value disputes arising from anticompetitive conduct, adding a significant strategic dimension to the firm’s work.

Past corporate clients include TK Elevator (TKE), H&R, Shell, TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil, ABB, MAN, Viatris and Vifor, showcasing his breadth of experience in infringement proceedings before both national and EU courts and their respective competition authorities.

He was at Stibbe for two-and-a-half years, having earlier been an associate partner at NautaDutilh for three years and, before that, spending more than 11 years at Freshfields.

Rogier Meijer, a partner at the firm’s Amsterdam office, said his “deep understanding of both claimant and defence strategies will be a tremendous asset to our clients and further strengthens our competition litigation practice in the Netherlands and across Europe”.

Lorjé said he was happy to join the firm and contribute to its continued development. Hausfeld has advised on seminal cases, including claims against Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store as well as the Dutch trucks cartel litigation, in relation to which it has filed more than 20 claims representing 200,000 clients.

Hausfeld has also advised clients in litigation before the CJEU, including the Air Cargo cartel claim, which was concluded last month after 20 years of litigation.

Lorjé will work alongside Meijer, Sander Timmerman – an experienced competition litigator and former in-house counsel who joined the firm in 2020 – and fellow partner Erik-Jan Zippro, who merged his boutique firm, Zippro Meijer, with Hausfeld to set up the Amsterdam office, also in 2020.

His arrival follows the firm’s annual partner promotions round, which was announced in January and saw five lawyers promoted to partner, consistent with last year’s group, split between its US and German offices.

Hausfeld has also made eight promotions to counsel, including three competition lawyers in London, another in Berlin and one in Hamburg, who specialises in data protection litigation. Additionally, there were three counsel promotions in the US.

Hausfeld has also hired an associate in Amsterdam. Bart Milar previously worked in-house at Wageningen University & Research and Dutch independent AD Advocaten. His experience covers commercial and competition litigation, mass claims and collective actions.
