Mr Johnston’s appointment comes as part of a broader restructure of Hill Dickinson’s senior management team, which also delivered the firm’s first chief executive officer and chairman last month. Managing partner Peter Jackson was tapped to take on the CEO role, while senior partner David Wareing was named as chairman. At the time, Hill Dickinson confirmed that it was on the lookout for a COO who would take on the former operational duties of the managing partner position.

Mr Johnson has been with Hill Dickinson for around 18 months, having previously spent 11 years at the helm of data intelligence company GB Group Plc before joining the firm as a non-executive director. Hill Dickinson is the latest in a string of law firms that have opted to create a COO position within the last year – among them, Pinsent Masons, Holman Fenwick Willan, and Nabarro.
