Peter Tarn has taken the slot of global managing partner at BVI-based law firm Harney Westwood & Riegels after a recent election.
The vote followed an announcement from Richard Peters that he will be leaving the position at the end of the year. Mr Tarn will take on the role from 1 December with Sheila George becoming managing partner of the BVI office.
Mr Peters has been with the firm for 33 years, spending 21 of them as managing partner. Mr Tarn has been with the firm since 2000.
UK
Anglo-US law firm DLA Piper has boosted its real estate practice by recruiting construction partners Mark Hilton and Simon Palmer.
Mr Hilton will be based in London, while Mr Palmer will work from the Sheffield office. Both join from rival London firm Addleshaw Goddard.
Mr Hilton has more than 20 years’ experience in advising on construction disputes, while Mr Palmer is also an experienced contentious construction lawyer who previously headed construction litigation at Addleshaw.
Kirill Zenin and Nuno Frota have joined the London office of Canadian law firm Fasken Martineau as partner and associate, respectively.
Mr Zenin joins as a member of the firm’s corporate, energy and projects and corporate social responsibility groups. He was previously an associate at New York-based firm Skadden.
Mr Frota, a specialist in projects, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures in Portuguese-speaking emerging markets, joins as an associate in the firm’s energy and projects group. He is admitted to practise in England, Angola and Portugal.

Netherlands
Carla Schoonderbeek has joined the Amsterdam office of European intellectual property law Dutch boutique Hoyng Monegier. Life science specialist Ms Schoonderbeek joins from Anglo-US firm Hogan Lovells and will be accompanied by Bart Jong, who joins as counsel.
The firm's regulatory practice will now cover the full range of European and national regulatory matters. The appointment takes the firm’s partner count to 21.
