Europe
London-based law firm Linklaters has bagged banking and restructuring expert Juan Barona as a partner for its Spanish banking practice, luring the lawyer from rival firm Allen & Overy, where he was a partner in its Madrid office.
However, Linklaters has lost out in Warsaw, where Marcin Muszel moves from the Londoners to join French law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel as a partner in its real estate practice. Mr Muszel has a considerable magic circle pedigree, having also been with Clifford Chance as well as London-based franchise firm CMS Cameron McKenna.
Major Italian independent law firm Legance appointed Alessandro Botto as a partner in its administrative law department. He moves to the firm from a stint at the country’s supreme court, where he had a variety of administrative roles. Mr Botto will join the law firm’s Rome office and work with Legance's established administrative law department.
French practice Grall & Associes has snapped up Charles-Henri Calla as partner. The commercial and economic law specialist firm says the move will bolster its position on the French and EU competition law markets as well as its its expertise in competition matters and merger control operations.
Mr Calla has been in a counsel role at New York law firm White & Case, which he joined in 2004.
UK
Paul Rawlinson has been appointed managing partner of the London office of Chicago-based global giant Baker & McKenzie. He will spend three years at the helm of the office – the largest in the firm’s global network -- effective from 1 July.
Mr Rawlinson is an intellectual property lawyer, and has been with the firm since 1986, making partner in 1995. He succeeds Gary Senior who will step down as managing partner after 10 years and three terms in the role. Mr Senior will remain at the firm.
London firm Trowers & Hamlins has picked up Ned Beale as a partner in its dispute resolution and litigation department. He joins from Olswang, where he was a senior associate.
Asia
Global law firm Norton Rose announced the appointment of Barbara Li as a corporate partner in its Beijing office. Ms Li – who joins from the Beijing office of Baker & McKenzie -- is a dual qualified corporate specialist, admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales and as a lawyer in China. She specializes in the mining, infrastructure and energy sectors, advising on both inbound and outbound investment and M&A.
Chicago law firm Kirkland & Ellis has boosted its Hong Kong M&A practice by recruiting Frank Sun from Paul Weiss as partner. According to a report in Asia Legal Business, Mr Sun, who was previously at the firm from 2007-08, specialises in M&A and private equity across Asia.
Oceania
Cathy Russo has been appointed the principal of M+K's Brisbane office. Ms Russo is a property and commercial law expert, advising publicly listed companies and small and medium-sized businesses across a broad range of industries including transport, hospitality and rural, reports Australia Legal Business.
Middle East
Brent Baldwin, Clare Raven and Hussein Shabana have been promoted to the partnership at leading local United Arab Emirates law firm Hadef & Partners. Middle East Legal Business reports that commercial property and real estate expert Mr Baldwin, commercial litigator Ms Raven and civil and commercial lawyer Mr Shabana all work in the firm’s Dubai office.

International law firm Salans has announced the promotion of three lawyers to partner status: German corporate practice group member Peter Mayer in Berlin, US real estate specialist Jody Saltzman in New York, and Moscow M&A specialist Sergey Trakhtenberg in Russian.
